PLoP reminder

PLoP reminder

2005-08-05       - By Paul Adamczyk

 Back
Registration is now open for the 12th Pattern Languages of
Programming (PLoP) Conference.

September 7th through 10th
Allerton Park in Monticello, IL.
http://hillside.net/plop/2005/registration.html

The focus at PLoP is on learning, discussion and reflection
about patterns. The conference offers a variety of workshops
that allow you to learn about patterns, to receive feedback
on your own patterns, and to discuss patterns with fellow
pattern enthusiasts.

Aspects of PLoP 2005 highlighted below:
Invited talks by Doug Schmidt and Ralph Johnson,
Focus Groups, including one on Leading Workshops with
Richard Gabriel,
Pre-PLoP Bootcamp,
Where to go for more info: http://hillside.net/plop/2005

This year PLoP will host three specially invited talks:

Doug Schmidt will offer a talk entitled "Pattern-Oriented
Software Architecture: Patterns for Concurrency and
Distributed Systems", as we near the 10th year of the first
POSA book.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of the "Gang of Four" book,
Ralph Johnson and Brian Foote will muse about refactoring
the GOF patterns, especially the Creational patterns space.
And additionally, Johnson will preview the GoF's plans for
their long awaited / anticipated sequel to the legendary
Design Patterns book.

A 3rd special talk also by Doug will look at "Reifying
Patterns for Distributed Systems in Modeling Tools", which
will look at Model Driven design and its use to reify
patterns for product-line architectures.

PLoP 2005 continues the tradition of Focus Groups where
people with common interests come together to discuss
patterns and pattern-related topics.  To highlight just one
of these Focus Groups:  Richard Gabriel and Linda Rising are
planning a Focus Group to look at more in-depth, more active
pattern Writers' Workshop leadership for the future.
Information on this and the other Focus Groups is on the web

And for the second year in a row there will be a pre-PLoP
Bootcamp led by Linda Rising and Bob Hanmer to guide
patterns newcomers into patterns, pattern writing and
preparation for PLoP.  Only a few seats remain.
