You can use JNDI to have singleton shared between various classloaders/JVMs.

If it is not expensive I prefer to have singleton implemented like this so
there is no need for synchronization etc..

private static final Singleton instance = new Singleton();
private Singleton() {

public Singleton getInstance() {
return Singleton.instance;
}
}
