Current rule engines for Java (in order of my own preference): Mandarax (Open Source LGPL - http://www.mandarax.org/), Blaze (http://www.blazesoft.com/), ILOG (http://www.ilog.com/products/jrules/) JESS (based on CLIPS expert system - http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess/f/)
