PHP 4, yes -- 5 apparently doesn't come with build-a-servlet support :-)

It's been quite a while, but I don't recall "patching source" at all. It built,
it ran, but with only marginal stability (and when it crashed, the whole VM
crashed). Not production-ready, certainly.
