Back And anyway: Is somebody using j2ee for RealTime?! That there are several patterns for building Real-Time-Systems is trivial, but I really wonder, if any of these are applicable to j2ee?! I always thought that the greatest trouble with real-time is to ensure reliable timing, but is this even possible inside a j2ee-container?! You don't have any control about garbage-collection, system-threads etc. - how can you control seek to control your timing?!
There is a JSR on Real-Time Java (http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=001) and there is a JSR on Distributed Real Time, which seeks to extend RMI to ensure Predictability, but none of these groups seem to be very active - so the question still remains, if j2ee is any way a sensible plattform for Real-Time-Application Development - so a little bit more than a google-list of c++-only-Patterns would be nice:)
