Please note that httpd is a server, not a home development system, and so a discussion of why UNIX is better as a server and why a GUI reduces reliability and performance on a UNIX system run as a server remains entirely pertinent.
Obviously running Apache on a UNIX system used for home development will work, but for production use, it is best to run it on a system dedicated to server functions, and preferably without any GUI (no X server or clients installed).
