ScaleAndTile, a Java-iText program that uses the iText library, has evolved
from a set of command-line programs that I wrote for my own use, to most recent
versions, ScaleAndTile, ScaleAndTile2, and now ScaleAndTile3. For the history
of the versions, search for ScaleAndTile, ScaleAndTile2, and ScaleAndTile3 on
www.rcgroups.com.

ScaleAndTile, any version, allows the user to scale and tile an image/PDF,
producing a single-page scaled PDF, as well as a PDF with a set of tiles of the
scaled PDF, for printing on the user's printer.

The latest version, ScaleAndTile3, is available only to donors to The Rotary
Foundation until 25 December 2007. Proceeds go to the same purposes  that the
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are supporting through their recent $100
million Challenge Grant, part of a $200 million joint effort to eradicate polio
from the face of the Earth.

One extraordinary fact has emerged from my development efforts. ScaleAndTile,
any version, even though compiled with iText 1.4, works with every version of
iText, from 1.4 through 2.0.7, without requiring any recompilation. It works
equally well on Windows (all versions from 95 to Vista), Mac OS X, and Linux.

Never, in my nearly 50 years of experience with computers, have I seen such
durability and portability of a software product!

Many, many thanks to Bruno, Paolo, et al, for developing iText.

Best regards,
Bill Segraves

P.S. Bill Gates is eligible for the advance release of ScaleAndTile3, on
account of his $100 million gift to The Rotary Foundation. It will be
interesting to see if he uses it. ;-)
