I have used DNN since its inception for one thing or another.  It is a
very good start for a portal framework if that is what you are looking
to do.  It is also a good hosting framework.  I say framework because it
is lacking in module creativity.  What it lacks in module creativity it
succeeds in security and user management.  I have used this application
as the base for my own stand alone web applications just to use the
security.  It however is a bit overkill for that I will admit.

Shawn Walker and the other core team members should be commended for
taking the IBS application to the next level.

There are many third party modules available at www.snowcovered.com if
you want to review them.  I have used several. They are very cheap and
you can get the code and customize.

I have rarely found a module that did exactly what I needed it to do so
I modify them as my own and go from there.

For free this is a very nice product and if nothing else there are some
really good code examples to follow and learn from.

If your are a C# person you will want to look at the rainbow portal
project as well.  I have not followed their progress so I can not tell
you the key differences but they both started from IBS and worked away
from that.

Has anyone done anything in DotNetNuke?  I've started playing around
with it
and it looks like a good framework for building ASP.NET sites.  I'd be
interested in hearing other's opinions, criticisms, or other thoughts
about
DNN.
