Thanks everybody for great responses on this subject. I've gotten
several helpful responses on the matter and there seems to be several
different paths that can be taken here.

It seems to be one of those areas where there isn't any single best
practice established that everybody can agree over.

I have decided to look deeper into the JMS approach, mostly because:
1. It is loosely coupled
2. It is asynchronous
2. Since I'm not using Entity Beans right now the effort to rebuild the
core of the system would be to big for me for the moment. Otherwise I'd
propably taken that path.
