Not "qc," "gc" -- as in, Java's Garbage Collection. =)

There are switches to pass to the container in the $JAVA_OPTS
env var, which in turn get passed to the Java command line. Sun has
docs to show you how.

At this point, I'd head down the load test / profiler route.
If you're having trouble with an app freezing, this will get to the
heart of the matter quickly.
